“Welcome to Projects in Action…where we at Covington spotlight recent installations of our sport and recreational flooring systems.”

Today we’re visiting Baldwin County on the Alabama Gulf Coast where Fairhope High School is investing in the future of student athletics.

The centerpiece of the $6 million multi-use athletic facility located on the School campus is the new auxiliary gymnasium recently constructed to support expanded high school sport and physical education participation.

The project was approved by the Baldwin County Board of Education in December of 2024, reinforcing the district’s commitment to modern, safe, and performance-driven athletic environments.

The general contractor for the facility is Rolin Construction.

At the heart of the new gym is a Robbins Bio-Channel SB sports flooring system, professionally installed by Covington Flooring.

Bio-Channel SB is an anchored and resilient floor system engineered to deliver consistent performance, enhanced safety, and long-term athlete comfort—while standing up to the demands of modern school athletics.

In addition to the flooring system, Covington also installed a full package of athletic equipment, including retractable overhead basketball goals, portable basketball goals, and wall-mounted safety padding—all provided by industry leader,  Performance Sports Systems…

Covington sales representative Jay Henley played a key role throughout the design and information phase of the project, working closely with stakeholders to ensure the facility met both performance expectations and long-term durability requirements.

Since its introduction by Robbins, Covington has installed more than 1.5 million square feet of Bio-Channel SB flooring across new and renovated athletic facilities—making it one of the most widely adopted resilient sports floor systems in their portfolio.

The Fairhope High School auxiliary gym is just one example of how school districts across the region are investing in spaces that support athlete safety, versatility, and community growth—today and for years to come.
